Terms of service

The plain-English agreement between you and Tickbase. It's short because the product is simple.

Last updated: · Applies to the Tickbase apps and tickbase.app

The short version

  • The free app is free. Premium costs $12 a year, with a 30-day trial and a 14-day refund.
  • Your tasks are yours. We don't claim any rights over them.
  • Don't use Tickbase to break the law or attack the service.
  • You can leave any time: export your data and delete your account in the app.
  • We do our best, but the service is provided “as is” and our liability is limited to what you've paid us.

1. The agreement

These terms are a contract between you and [Legal entity name — placeholder] (“Tickbase”, “we”, “us”). By using the Tickbase apps, the website at tickbase.app or the web app at app.tickbase.app (together, the “Service”), you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data and forms part of these terms.

2. Your account

  • You don't need an account to use the free app on one device.
  • Tickbase Premium requires an account, created by signing in with Google or Apple. You must be at least 16 (or the age of digital consent where you live) to create one.
  • You're responsible for keeping your Google or Apple sign-in secure and for anything done through your account.
  • One account is for one person. Shared lists, when they arrive, will have their own rules.

3. Your content

Everything you put into Tickbase — tasks, lists, tags, notes — is yours. We claim no ownership or licence over it beyond what's needed to store it, sync it to your devices and back it up, which you permit us to do by using Premium. We don't use your content to train AI models, build profiles or advertise. You can export it all as JSON at any time and delete it by deleting your account.

You're responsible for what you store. Don't store content you don't have the right to store.

4. Acceptable use

Please don't:

  • use the Service for anything illegal, or to store content that is illegal where you or we are;
  • try to break into, overload, scrape, reverse-engineer or disrupt the Service or other people's accounts;
  • share one Premium subscription between multiple people, or resell access;
  • use automated tools against our servers beyond normal use of the app (an exported JSON file is the supported way to get your data out in bulk).

If you do, we may suspend or close your account. We'll tell you why unless the law prevents it.

5. Billing, trials and refunds

  • Free. The app on one device is free, with no time limit. The free version has the usage limits listed on the pricing page.
  • Tickbase Premium costs $12 per year (or the equivalent in your local currency where app stores require it), billed yearly in advance. There is one price and one plan.
  • Trial. New accounts get a 30-day free trial of Premium. No payment details are taken for the trial. If you don't subscribe by the end of it, Premium simply stops and the app returns to Free; nothing is deleted.
  • Payment is processed by Stripe (web) or by Apple or Google (their app stores). Purchases made through an app store are also subject to that store's terms.
  • Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically each year until cancelled. We'll email account holders before renewal.
  • Cancellation. Cancel any time in Settings (web) or through your app store's subscription settings. Premium continues until the end of the paid period.
  • Refunds. Within 14 days of any charge, we'll refund it in full, no questions asked: email hello@tickbase.app. Purchases made through Apple or Google are refunded through their processes; we'll help you find the right place. Nothing in this section limits refund rights you have under local consumer law.
  • Price changes. We may change the price of Premium, for example if the cost of running the service changes. A changed price applies to you only from your next renewal, and we will email account holders at least 30 days before it takes effect, so you can cancel first if you prefer and keep Premium until the end of the paid period.
  • Tax. Prices include VAT or sales tax where we are required to collect it; otherwise it's shown at checkout.

6. Changes to the service

We'll keep improving Tickbase, which means features may be added or changed. We won't remove the ability to export your data. If we ever had to shut the Service down, we'd give at least 90 days' notice, keep export working throughout, and refund any unused portion of your subscription.

7. Ending the agreement

You can end it any time by deleting your account in Settings, which removes your data from our servers as described in the privacy policy. We can end it if you break these terms, or with 30 days' notice for any other reason (with a pro-rated refund of any unused subscription). Sections 3, 8, 9, 10 and 11 survive termination.

8. No warranty

We work hard to make Tickbase reliable, but we're a small independent operation and can't promise perfection. The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the extent the law allows. We don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free or that your data will never be lost — which is why export is always available and why we recommend keeping your own backups of anything important.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tickbase will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability to you for all claims in any 12-month period is limited to the amount you paid us in that period, or $12 if you paid nothing.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [Country / state — placeholder], and disputes will be handled by the courts of [Jurisdiction — placeholder]. If you're a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in your local courts.

11. Other things

  • If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
  • These terms, plus the privacy policy, are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
  • We may update these terms. For material changes we'll email account holders and show a notice in the app at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the new terms; if you don't, you can cancel and we'll refund any unused subscription.
